Keyword Extensions: How They Work and How to Use Them

October 30, 2026

Once you own a keyword, you can create numbered versions of it. These are called keyword extensions. If you own yourbrand, you can also claim yourbrand2, yourbrand7, or yourbrand2026.

Each one is its own shortcut, so one word you've already taught people can lead to many different places.

How Extensions Work

  • You need the main keyword first. Only the owner of yourbrand can claim yourbrand2. Nobody else can use numbers on your word.
  • The number goes at the end. yourbrand2 is an extension. Any keyword that ends in a number is treated as one, so claiming area51 would require owning area.
  • Each one points to its own page. Send yourbrand and yourbrand2 to completely different places.
  • Each one has its own visit count. You can see how many people used each number.
  • Each one has its own settings. You can schedule it, lock it, turn it off, or keep it off your profile without changing the others.
  • Your plan sets the limit. Extensions have their own allowance, on top of your plan's keyword total. See the plans for what each one includes.

How to Claim One

Sign in, enter your keyword with the number on the end, and claim it like any other keyword. Then choose where it goes. There's no separate setup.

Ways to Use Extensions

Compare Your Platforms

Use a different number on each platform: yourbrand1 on TikTok, yourbrand2 on Instagram, and yourbrand3 on YouTube Shorts. Point them all to the same page, then compare their visit counts to see where your audience acts.

Run Dated Campaigns

Keep your main keyword for your homepage, and use yourbrand2026 for this year's event, sale, or launch. Next year's campaign gets its own number, and last year's can point to the new one.

Number Your Products or Videos

This works well for creators. Show product 12 in a video and say, "Enter yourname12 on KeywordMe." Viewers don't have to dig through a list, and you can see which items get the most interest.

Separate Your Locations

A business with several locations can use yourbrand1 and yourbrand2 for each shop, so posters and packaging in each location lead to the right page.

Give Each Sponsor or Partner a Number

Give each partner their own extension. Then you can show them how many people used theirs.

Test Two Offers

Use one number in each version of an ad, with each pointing to a different page. Compare how many people enter each one, and how they respond once they arrive.

How to Get the Most From Them

  • Keep your main keyword steady. Point it at something lasting, like your homepage or profile, and let the numbers change.
  • Keep numbers short. yourbrand2 is easier to say and remember than yourbrand48. A year like 2026 works when the date means something.
  • Say the whole thing clearly. Show it on screen when you can, so people don't miss the number.
  • Keep a simple list. Note what each number is for, so you don't reuse one by accident.
  • Don't let old numbers go nowhere. Old videos and print keep getting seen. Point a finished extension to your current offer instead of turning it off.
  • Use them on purpose. Extra numbers are only useful if you'll check them. Start with two or three.
